All 3-5 year olds are provided with a hot lunch or soup and a sandwich on their funded sessions.  The menu offers a choice of healthy, tasty and nutritious meals. The current cost of a nursery lunch is £2.43 for non-funded sessions.

Some families may be eligible for free meals for children attending extended day/year. Children of parents/carers receiving income support or income based job seekers’ allowance are entitled to a free midday meal. Children of parents who are in receipt of Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit or Employment and Support Allowance (income related) or Support Under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, may also be eligible. Information and application forms for free meals may be obtained from the centre, the Community Hubs, the Education Office or online at www. eastdunbarton.gov.uk

Parents have the option to supply a packed lunch for their child, however the EYC does not have any fridge storage space for packed lunches. Therefore, it is essential that parents provide a cool pack to ensure that their child’s lunch is suitable for serving at lunch time.  As a health promoting nursery we have prepared some guidelines which we ask parents to follow when preparing their child’s packed lunch. 

Only plain water or milk or milk alternative should be provided to drink, the nursery can supply fresh drinking water. 

Killermont EYC is a health promoting centre and we use the N.H.S. Health Scotland document, Setting the Table as guidance to ensure that we are providing well-balanced and healthy choices for the children. To encourage the children to make positive choices of the foods they eat they are involved in choosing foods for our snack menu.  The menu is reviewed every term and consists of a rolling two week rota.

You can claim free school lunches for your nursery aged children if you are receiving:

• Income Support (IS)
• Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
• Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
• Child Tax Credit (CTC), but not Working Tax Credit, and your income is less than £16,105
• Both maximum Child Tax Credit and maximum Working Tax Credit and your income is under £6,900
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Universal Credit (where the monthly earned income does not exceed £610)
• Incapacity or Severe Disablement Allowance
• State Pension Credit
• Those aged two or over who are (or have been at any point since turning two) either looked after by a Local Authority, the subject of a Kinship Care Order or a child with a Parent or Appointed Guardian.
